Accounts Administrator

Belfast (BT6)

 c.£15-£18k DOE

We are working with a leading successful NI business brand to recruit an Accounts Administrator to work within their busy Finance function.

The main purpose of the role is to support all aspects of accounting in the company.  This will include purchase ledger, credit control, petty cash oversight, bank reconciliation and the assist in general office administration.

Where required, training will be provided; as such, this is an excellent opportunity to gain strong experience in all aspects of accounting in a large business.


Key duties

Bank Reconciliations

  • Update the bank reconciliation on Kerridge for any cheques, direct debits, etc and assist in the preparation of the daily bank reconciliation report.

Credit Control

  • Chasing up any outstanding debt and provide copy invoices, etc to ensure prompt payment of overdue accounts are received.

Purchase Cycle

  • Coding and processing of purchase invoices
  • Reconcile Supplier Balances to Statement

Reconcile all supplier balances to statement 

  • Follow-up and post all reconciling items to ensure complete reconciliation on a monthly basis

Process Payments

  • Generate payment proposal reports and submit to accountant for approval
  • Generate cheque payments and remittance advice from approved payment report
  • Obtain authorised signatures for payments
  • Post payments as advised by accountant
  • Process cheque requisitions and update cheque journal

Petty Cash

  • Responsible for issuing and recording all petty cash transactions
  • Ensure petty cash balances
  • Issue cheque to top up petty cash

Used Vehicle Purchases

  • Buy used vehicles onto system from various sources
  • Perform HPI checks and NMR investigations for used car purchases
  • Pay other group companies for any inter group purchases
  • Ensure V5 is received for all used car purchases
  • Push VSB lines to workshop for used car checks, once vehicle has been received into stock

Other Duties

  • Place stationary and refreshments orders for sites.
  • Maintain high standard of housekeeping and liaise with the accountant on any areas of concern or potential problems.


Eligibility criteria


At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role, in a busy accounts office is essential.

5 GCSE’S at Grade C or above (or equivalent).

IT skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Good communication skills

Excellent telephone manner


  • Working knowledge of Kerridge/ADP would be beneficial.
  • Experience of working with cash and/or bank lodgements.
  • Motor Trade experience.
  • Accountancy Technician’s Qualification – desirable but not essential.
